Justice minister Alan Shatter has published the new insolvency bill, which proposes to discharge people from bankruptcy after three years as opposed to 12 years at present

Justice minister Alan Shatter has published the new insolvency bill, which proposes significant changes to the insolvency regime including the introduction of automatic discharge from bankruptcy after three years as opposed to 12 years at present

Shatter said that the shortening of the discharge period moved Ireland to the European norm.

The bill also includes a number of new non-judicial debt resolution processes.
