Inheritance tax take up 33%
The Revenue Commissioners' take from inheritance tax rose by a third last year, highlighting the increased value of the assets held by the Irish population.
Revenue figures show that €170 million was paid in inheritance tax last year - well up from €128 million in 2003.
The Revenue's data also shows a sharp rise in the number of assets on which inheritance tax was assessed in recentyears.The rate of inheritance tax is 20 per cent,which means €850 million of inherited wealth came into the tax net last year.
