What are the problems?
Ireland is the most expensive country in the eurozone for fruit and vegetables, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, tobacco, restaurants and pubs.
Despite this, the quality of certain goods is often poor. It costs more to produce fruit, vegetables and potatoes in Ireland than in any other European country. The retail grocery sector is highly concentrated. Musgraves, Tesco and Dunnes Stores have the largest turnovers in the industry.
