The world had been held agog last Monday by an accidentally-taped interchange in St Petersburg between Blair and US president George W Bush, in which Bush revealed that his secretary of state Condoleezza Rice might go to the Middle East soon and declared that Syria should press Hezbollah to ‘‘stop doing this shit’’, all after hailing Blair rapper-style, with a ‘‘Yo, Blair!”
