While Ford struggles to return to profit and stop a slide in its US market share, some German car makers are announcing impressive figures.

BMW sales in the first quarter of 2006 were up 13.5 per cent to 144,316 units from 127,118 in the same period last year.

These statistics include Mini and Rolls Royce sales. The main increase was in the BMW brand; Mini sales are down as the Oxford factory prepares for production of the new generation...
