IMF cuts US growth forecast to 1.7%

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said it expects growth in the US economy to be even slower than it had predicted a month ago, due to unexpected weakness in the first quarter.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said it expects growth in the US economy to be even slower than it predicted a month ago, due to unexpected weakness in the first quarter.

The IMF prediction for US growth in 2014 is now 1.7 per cent, down from its June prediction of 2 per cent.

US activity should pick up to 3 per cent over the next 18 months, the IMF said.
