The introduction of statutory sick pay would cost 3,500 jobs and damage the economy, the employers group IBEC has said.
Speaking at a briefing of TDs and senators in the Oireachtas today, IBEC said the plans would force many companies to reduce pay and benefits.
The group said today's disappointing CSO unemployment figures further highlighted the need to keep employment costs down and prioritise job creation.
