IBEC says tax hikes have gone far enough

"An agreed way forward is preferable, but public service unions and their members need to know the impact of legislation,if an agreement cannot be reached."

The business group IBEC said today it was vital that the government secures required savings to the public sector pay and pensions bill but that any move to increase the marginal tax rate would set back the recovery.

IBEC said the government should set out the details of the unilateral adjustments that would be required to achieve the required savings, in the absence of a deal with trade unions.
