Ireland's economy remains in a very poor state, according to the business employers group IBEC.

The group was commenting on retail sales figures that showed a drop in headline sales in the summer.

IBEC senior economist Reetta Suonperä said: "Latest retail sales figures show that the domestic economy remains firmly in the doldrums.
