Business representative organisation, IBEC has criticised the absence of any move to ease the burden of commercial rates on struggling businesses in the the new local government reform package.

The business lobby group, which welcomed other elements of the government’s “Putting People FIrst” plan, said that business directly subvents local government to the tune of €1.6 billion per year.
