Ibec calls for web content provider giants to part-fund broadband costs
Ibec has called on Google, Microsoft and Facebook to start contributing to the cost of building Irish broadband networks.
Tommy McCabe, the director of the organisation’s Telecoms and Internet Federation (TIF),said that large ‘‘content providers’’ such as Google and Facebook were currently ‘‘using telecoms networks for free’’. He said that this position was ‘‘unsustainable’’.
The call has been backed by the director of Eircom’s wholesale division, John McKeon.
