The HSE wants to increase the pay of top hospital bosses. It is preparing a business case in order to increase the €136,000 pay packet that was originally offered to the chief executives of newly-established hospital groups.

The health service has been unable to attract sufficient interest from high-calibre candidates to fill the chief executive posts in the majority of the country's six adult hospital groups.
