HSE says no to public consultants in private hospitals

HSE chief Tony O'Brien has written to all hospitals warning them that consultants with public contracts are not permitted to work in private hospitals.

HSE chief Tony O'Brien has written to all hospitals warning them that consultants with public contracts are not permitted to work in private hospitals.

In his letter, O'Brien said that "where such arrangements previously existed, they must cease". The practice is understood to be widespread at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin, with St Vincent's Healthcare Group (SVHG) contending that the hospital is a de facto co-located hospital.
