HSE report reveals huge absenteeism

New HSE figures show double-digit sick leave in some hospital units, while 9% of total staff were absent in one hospital in January, writes Susan Mitchell.

New Health Service Executive (HSE) figures have revealed double-digit rates of absenteeism in units within a number of hospitals around the country.

At Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, for example, 19 per cent of patient and client care staff - including nurses' aids, healthcare assistants and medical technicians - were out on sick leave in January.
