The Health Service Executive (HSE) may consider keeping the graduate nursing and midwifery scheme open on a rolling basis, after it received just 100 applications.

The low take-up indicates that nurses and midwives have continued to boycott the scheme, which the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has described as greedy and opportunistic.

The graduate scheme offers 1,000 nurses and midwives two-year posts at 80 per cent of the previous starting salary.
