HSE deficit running at nearly €90m

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is under significant financial pressure, with new figures showing the state's hospitals have already run up a €48.7 million deficit this year.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is under significant financial pressure, with new figures showing the state's hospitals have already run up a €48.7 million deficit this year.

The HSE's second financial report showed an overall deficit of €89.3 million against a budget of €2.02 billion at the end of February.

Louth County Hospital showed the biggest overspend, spending €1.4 million - or 72 per cent - more than it should.
