The new BMW i8 may look like it's been driven off a sci-fi film set, but it's now a reality.

At the Los Angeles launch event of the new BMW i8, a BMW engineer candidly admits over dinner that, at several points in the car's development, the team came up against what seemed like insurmountable hurdles. That's hardly surprising, given BMW's pursuit of the usually disparate goals of sports car performance and genuine eco-car credentials.
