Household loans down 3.9% in May, says Central Bank

Loans to households were 3.9 per cent lower in May 2012 from the previous year, new statistics from the Central Bank showed.

Loans to households were 3.9 per cent lower in May 2012 than the previous year, new statistics from the Central Bank showed.

Lending for house purchases was 2.5 per cent lower on an annual basis in May 2012, while lending for consumption and other purposes declined by 7.7 per cent.

In money terms, lending to households fell by €264 million following a net monthly flow of minus €582 million in April. Developments in May were largely driven by a decrease...
