New and relocating businesses in the hospitality sector are being forced to pay significant deposits to energy providers, while those in other sectors pay none if their credit check is clear.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland (RAI) has reported that, in the last six months, new businesses starting up or moving premises are being asked to pay deposits of about €1,800 to €8,000 for connection to energy companies. The body wants to discuss the matter...
