Hospital staff took stress-related leave over Halappanavar case

A number of staff involved in the care of Savita Halappanavar have taken stress-related leave due to the impact of her death and its aftermath.

A number of staff involved in the care of Savita Halappanavar have taken stress-related leave due to the impact of her death and its aftermath, the chief executive of Galway University Hospitals has said.

Bill Maher said he was "truly sorry" that Halappanavar had received "substandard care" at the hospital, but that he hoped her death would not define the hospital" or the staff who "deliver excellent care on a regular basis".
