Hospital plans mired in conflicting claims and political worries

Lack of consultation, broken election promises and clashing statistics are slowing the HSE’s drive towards a tiered hospital system

Politicians are feeling the heat from local groups around the country.

These have become increasingly concerned that Fine Gael’s pre-election pledges to retain - and in some cases restore - certain local hospital services are now redundant.

The continuing fallout from the Roscommon Hospital affair resulted in Fine Gael calling a parliamentary meeting in an effort to allay the mounting concerns of worried backbenchers and senators.
