The new environment minister, Phil Hogan, has contacted the leaders of the country’s main pro-hunting lobby group to thank them for endorsing Fine Gael during the general election.

This could be the first sign of a move to reverse last year’s ban on stag hunting. Hogan had already pledged before the election that Fine Gael would reinstate the activity, banned by former Green minister John Gormley last year. Gormley’s legislation put an end...
