Environment minister Phil Hogan has contradicted a statement by Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton, leaving the two cabinet ministers at odds over the payment of the household charge.

Environment minister Phil Hogan has contradicted a statement by Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton, leaving the two cabinet ministers at odds over the payment of the household charge.

Burton told RTÉ Radio’s This Week programme yesterday afternoon that people would be able to pay the €100 household charge through the post office and she also described next Saturday’s deadline for the payment of the charge as “ambitious”.
