HMV to appoint administrator, suspend shares

UPDATE: HMV, which takes its name from the iconic ‘His Master’s Voice’ dog and trumpet trademark, has been hurt by competition from supermarkets and web retailers.

HMV to appoint administrator.

HMV, Britain's biggest retailer of CDs and DVDs, has confirmed plans to appoint Deloitte as an administrator and immediately suspend trading of its shares while a buyer is sought for the business.

HMV, which operates 26 shops on the island of Ireland, has been “unable to reach a position where it feels able to continue to trade outside of insolvency protection,” the company said.
