Christopher Hitchens's final work is a book somewhat lacking in the chuckle department, as we shall see, but this short posthumous volume about his ultimately unsuccessful struggle with oesophageal cancer does permit itself at least one belly-laugh. Sitting in a bookshop signing copies of his autobiography, he is approached by a matronly-looking woman with a concerned expression on her face, who asks about his illness.
