Hastings Hotels, the Belfast firm that owns the Europa Hotel, recorded a sharp rise in profits last year as revenues rose by more than 15 per cent.

The company, which also owns 50 per cent of the five-star Merrion Hotel in Dublin, made a pre-tax profit of £3.3 million (€4.1 million) for the year to the end of October 2007, up from £1.1 million the previous year. Revenues rose to £33.8 million from £28.8 million, and...
