High-rise offices in Phoenix Park
I read with despair of Michael McDowell’s latest plan to improve our city by building a seven-storey tower block in the Phoenix Park to house the forensic science laboratories.
Such a tall building anywhere in Dublin would be an ugly sight, but placing it in the green oasis that is Europe’s largest enclosed city park is an act of vandalism.
What will he do next?
Convert the People’s Garden to a multi-storey car park for commuters? Clearly the lessons of Ballymun have not been learned. Tower blocks do not work as family accommodation and are an ugly scar on any cityscape....
