The number of people passing through O'Connell Street in Dublin has surged by as much as 36 per cent in recent weeks, boosted by the NFL game between Notre Dame and Navy, as well as other high-profile events in the city.

High-end shops in the capital are also reporting a lift in sales over the past six to eight weeks as tourists make up for flagging local consumer confidence.
