High number of trucks avoiding Limerick Tunnel with no large truck ban in Limerick city centre

Forcing large trucks to use the Limerick Tunnel would save the state millions of euro in penalty payments, writes Michael Brennan.

Up to 15,000 large trucks are avoiding using the €600 million Limerick Tunnel every month by travelling through the city centre instead.

A pilot project found that there was a 70 per cent increase in the number of trucks using the Limerick Tunnel last November when tolls for trucks were lifted for the month.
