Dozens of criminal trials have been delayed and several abandoned because gardaí have lost evidence, according to a High Court judge.

Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O’Neill said it was ‘‘wholly unacceptable’’ that evidence had to be kept in the personal lockers of investigating gardaí, leading to ‘‘the loss of important evidence in several cases’’.
