Many European ski resorts have opened weeks ahead of schedule to make the most of recent heavy snowfalls, giving skiers hope that it could be a bumper season.

Many European ski resorts have opened weeks ahead of schedule to make the most of recent heavy snowfalls, giving skiers hope that it could be a bumper season.

In contrast to last November’s record high temperatures, resorts across France, Austria, Italy and Switzerland have already had more than 50cm of fresh snow, with a cold snap that has allowed resorts to produce artificial snow.
