I retired and moved overseas ten years ago, and the VHI persuaded me to retain my private medical insurance for treatment abroad with its subsidiary, Global cover. My wife and I are currently paying €2,000 per annum for a joint ‘‘abroad’’ policy, which does not include pre-hospitalisation consultancy fees or diagnostic expenses.
