Waste-disposal company Greenstar has been granted permission to operate a landfill for ten years at Usk Quarry in Kilcullen, Co Kildare.

Kildare County Council refused the development but that decision was overturned by An Bord Pleanala, which ignored its own inspector’s recommendation that the proposal be refused.

Up to 200,000 tonnes of waste per annum will be deposited in the landfill which can only be used for non-hazardous residual municipal, commercial and industrial waste.
