Dutch highways will soon be a lot safer and more energy-efficient thanks to a new type of road design by Studio Roosegaarde and infrastructure group Heijmans.

It uses photoluminescent paint, energy harvesting and interactivity to light roads and alert drivers to hazardous conditions, and underground induction coils to recharge electric vehicles.
