There is now a fifth more carbon in the atmosphere than 12 years ago, according to a recent UN Environment Programme report.

Some experts remain optimistic, citing countries like Brazil, which has reduced deforestation by two-thirds since 2004, but the report warns that more drastic action must happen now.
