The government has temporarily halted deportations of asylum seekers to Greece amid concerns over the harsh treatment of foreign detainees there.

The Department of Justice has confirmed that there were 37 cases pending here due to a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in January which found major flaws in the asylum system in Greece.
