Government's mortgage helpline receives low number of calls

A government telephone helpline for those in mortgage arrears has only received calls from about 2% of all homeowners in financial distress.

A government telephone helpline for those in mortgage arrears has only received calls from about 2 per cent of all homeowners in financial distress, despite €350,000 being spent on the service.

The latest Central Bank figures, published earlier this month, revealed that about 144,000 home mortgages were in arrears.
