Several government TDs, including former minister Willie Penrose, have criticised aspects of justice minister Alan Shatter's Legal Services Bill and asked for significant amendments to be made to the legislation.

The mammoth bill, which contains far-reaching reforms of the legal profession - many of which are being strongly resisted by lawyers - began its journey through the law-making process in recent weeks. However, it is already apparent that some of its reforms will be resisted...
