Government set to finalise sale of Bord Gais to Centrica

UPDATE: The government is believed to be close to agreeing a deal to sell Bord Gais, it is understood.

The likely winning bidder for Bord Gais is believed to be British company Centrica.

The government is finalising a deal to sell Bord Gais to a consortium including British company Centrica.

Energy minister Pat Rabbitte confirmed the selection of a preferred bidder after "revised bids were received which offered materially increased value for Bord Gais."

The price is understood to be over €1.1 billion after the consortium increased its final bid in negotiations with the company and the government.
