The death of Savita Halappanavar in Galway University Hospital last month after doctors decided not to perform a termination has reignited the debate about abortion.

The government has today published a report by an expert group into abortion outlining options open to state for implementing a judgement by the European Court of Human Rights on the matter.

Legislation allowing for the limited provision of abortion, followed by regulations to deal with "detailed and practical matters", is the favoured option in the report of the expert group on abortion, as was reported *(subscription required)* by the Sunday Business Post last week.
