Government proposes a lobbyist register

The government has proposed a new register for lobbyists as it seeks more transparency on who is lobbying whom on what.

The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin has today published a policy paper on the regulation of lobbying that suggests the creation of a new online register of all those engaged in it.

He noted a need to bring greater transparency and openness to lobbying activity and shed light on the key question “who is lobbying whom on what".
