Government plans crisis summit on childcare
The government will hold a crisis summit on childcare within the next four weeks, after learning that soaring childcare costs and lack of places were significant issues in last week's by-election.
Seamus Brennan, the Minister for Social and FamilyAffairs, said it was clear during the Meath and Kildare North campaigns that a ���joined-up government answer is needed to give urgent attention to this problem'‘.
Childcare had been discussed at cabinet several times since the last general election, he said, but it would now be fast-tracked.
