The government is gearing up for what could be a massive sell-off of state companies in a bid to raise billions of euro.

The government is gearing up for what could be a massive sell-off of state companies in a bid to raise billions of euro.

An expert group, headed by economist Colm McCarthy, will advise the government on the possible sale of companies such as Bord Gáis, parts of the ESB and the Dublin Airport Authority.

Ministers approved the establishment of the group last week, and its report is expected later this year.
