Government group has helped reduce business red tape

A government group claims to have succeeded in introducing a range of measures to cut down on red tape for businesses, writes Martha Kearns.

The High Level Group on Business Regulation has tackled almost 70 red-tape issues, 30 of which have already been resolved, according to an internal memo.

For example, the work of the group has resulted in small traders having to produce less frequent Vat returns for the Revenue Commissioners.

It has also resulted in the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government simplifying procedures in relation to waste collection permits. The ten separate permits necessary to operate nationally...
