Government disputes army €30m claim

The Department of Defence has disputed a claim by Pdforra, the Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative Association, that it will cost €30 million to reassign 650 personnel who are affected by plans to close five military establishments.

The Department of Defence has disputed a claim by Pdforra, the Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative Association, that it will cost €30 million to reassign 650 personnel who are affected by plans to close five military establishments.

The government plans to transfer 260 soldiers in Donegal from barracks in Letterkenny and Lifford to Finner camp; 200 troops from Monaghan to Aiken barracks in Dundalk, and 130 from Connolly barracks in Longford to Athlone. Staff at...
