Government announces consultation on earlier tax deadline

Tax experts have warned that proposals to make self-employed taxpayers pay their tax bill earlier will create cash-flow problems for small businesses.

New government proposals to make self-employed taxpayers pay their tax bill earlier from next year onwards will create significant cash-flow problems for small businesses, and could put jobs at risk, tax experts have warned.

New European rules require the government to move the budget from its traditional December date to mid-October, and consideration is now being given to revising the pay and file deadline to better align with the new budget timetable.
