Gormley’s new plan for car buyers

Environment minister John Gormley plans to give motorists who buy cars between January 1 and June 30 the chance to opt in to the new emissions based motor tax system.

Environment minister John Gormley plans to give motorists who buy cars between January 1 and June 30 the chance to opt in to the new emissions based motor tax system.

However, the minister will not backdate the introduction of the new system - under which motor tax will be decided by the carbon dioxide emissions of the vehicle - to January 1.
