The US energy giant Covanta currently battling environment minister John Gormley over its planned 600,000 tonne Poolbeg waste incinerator is facing major problems with some of its American waste projects.

The city authority in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania is considering filing for bankruptcy after missing a $637,000 payment to Covanta, which is operating a 240,000 tonne incinerator in the city.

That incinerator carries $288 million of debt and the current budget for the plant shows that revenues of $25million in...
