The Green Party leader John Gormley will formally announce his intention to stand down as leader at a meeting of party members in Dublin on Saturday.

The party will meet next weekend for the first time since its general election wipeout, when none of its six TDs was returned to the Dáil. Gormley, the former environment minister, has told members he will not contest the leadership.
