Gormley commits Ireland to €100m climate payment

Environment minister John Gormley travels to the UN climate change summit in Copenhagen today, promising that Ireland will commit €100 million to developing countries in the next three years to mitigate the effects of global warming.

Environment minister John Gormley travels to the UN climate change summit in Copenhagen today, promising that Ireland will commit €100 million to developing countries in the next three years to mitigate the effects of global warming.

According to government sources, any deal reached at Copenhagen will require further, larger contributions to the developing world after 2012.The government is willing to sign up to such a commitment with other EU members, the sources said.
